Saunas buying guide
Heat exposure is one of the oldest recovery rituals there is. Today's home saunas come in two main styles, and the right one depends on your space, your power supply and how you like to sweat.
What are your options?
Full-spectrum infrared
Heats your body directly with infrared panels at lower air temperatures (roughly 120–150°F). Easy to install, often runs on a standard outlet, and comfortable for longer sessions.
Traditional (Finnish)
Heats the air with an electric or wood stove to 160–195°F, with the option of steam from water on the rocks. Most need a dedicated 240V circuit.
Outdoor barrel and cabin
Traditional saunas built for the backyard. Plan for a level pad, weather protection and an electrician.
What to look for
- Indoor or outdoor, and the footprint you have
- Power: 120V plug-in vs. a dedicated 240V circuit
- Capacity: 1–2 person vs. family size
- Wood type, EMF levels and warranty length

Common questions
Infrared or traditional: which is better?
Neither is better for everyone. Infrared is easier to install and runs cooler; traditional gives you the classic high-heat, steam experience. We can help you weigh them for your space.
Do I need an electrician?
Many 1–2 person infrared units plug into a standard outlet. Most traditional and larger units need a dedicated 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician.
